Tour description

  • Take a look of the majestic limestone cliff at Bulbjerg that rises 47 meters above sea level. With a 360-degree view of moors, dunes, and the sea, this might be the best vantage point in Thy and Hannæs
  • Enjoy the silence and the charming atmosphere in the old fishing villages at Lildstrand and Thorupstrand
  • On this route, you get to experience some of the darkest areas in Denmark with excellent opportunities to see a clear view of the starts

On this hike from Bulbjerg to Thorupstrand and Lilstrand, you will experience a beautiful but rough nature where endless horizons and shifting light sets the scene for a unique adventure.
With its steep cliffside, Bulbjerg serves as the perfect spot for birds to nest and is the only bird cliff in Denmark outside Bornholm. The cliffside is constantly changing. The limestone material is exposed to the full force of the North Sea and causes erosion. The scattered chunks of limestone along the beach below are a testament to this.

Walk along the North Sea Trail (Redningsvejen) in between the dunes close to the ocean. You will experience the beauty of the windswept landscape where people once used the trail to reach distressed ships and stranded seafarers.

During the hike, you pass by burial mounds from the bronze age and the monolith at Troldsting. The fishing village of Lildstrand is located in the northwest corner of Thisted municipality and has only 35 permanent residents. Thorupstrand is an old but still active fishing village with a prominent history of being an important piece of the puzzle in the trade with Norway during the 1800/19th century.

Special characteristic: Visit the only bird cliff in Denmark outside Bornholm, and experience the extraordinary phenomenon ‘dark sky’.
